Botanical Garden of Santiago


The Botanical Garden of Santiago inaugurated Mariposario Greta, a public space to promote environmental education as well as the conservation of the biodiversity of flora and fauna.

The project was designed prioritizing the gardens, the flying area of ​​the butterflies and the laboratory (which meets all the conditions to achieve the success of a butterfly garden.

The activity was attended by the United States ambassador to the country, Robin Berstein; Francisco Domínguez Brito, the provincial governor Ana María Domínguez, as well as students from colleges and schools. It is a space that offers a learning experience and an opportunity for the creation of natural educational laboratories.

Mariposario Greta is a new attraction of the city of Santiago within the Botanical Garden space that was created as a space that served as a green area providing 1 square meter more of green area per inhabitant.

 Almost all kinds of recreational activities are being allowed, most people walk through the Garden on foot or by bicycle, carry out activities such as picnics, rallies, photo shoots, family or group gatherings. There are already hundreds of species in the area, to which more than 100,000 plants and 400 species. But currently the Botanical Garden faces one of the most important challenges;  the maintenance of space and sustainability. The garden has suffered this challenges due to budget reduction and is expected to be resolved by 2020.
